How do I register for multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Updated 06/12/2023 04.33 PM

Because passwords can be forgotten or stolen, multi-factor authentication (MFA) is an additional security step that helps protect your account.

When you log into your University systems (such as your University email, eStudent and MyLO) from a private network, you'll require a text, Microsoft Authenticator app, or phone call verification to confirm it’s you. Find out how to bypass this if you don't have access to these devices.

To register for MFA:

  • Log into MyAccount
  • Select 'Security info',
  • Set up or confirm an alternate email address, and
  • Choose your MFA option(s) - you can select up to three.
  • Test your MFA by signing into a University account (you should be prompted to authenticate your password from the sign-in methods you have added).

We recommend you use Outlook for Mobile to access your email on your mobile device and the latest version of Microsoft Office on your computer (either Windows or Mac operating systems).

If you need help with your MFA, please contact the IT Service Desk on +61 3 6226 2600.
